There’s nothing like the iconic Doc Martens’ lace up boots. But what if you’re avoiding leather? Don’t worry, vegans. There’s an entire range of vegan Dr. Martens for you, and it’s more than just boots, too.

Vegan Doc Martens: The Range

Are Dr Martens boots vegan? Many of them are.

In fact, the range of Doc Marten vegan boots is surprisingly large. Whether you’re looking for lace up boots, shoes, sandals, or other items, chances are, Dr. Martens has the style you’re looking for.

Dr. Martens 1460 Lace Up Boots

Doc Martens 1460 Lace Ups are the classic eight eyelet stompy boots, and yes, they’re available in a vegan variety. The smooth faux leather uppers are made from shiny Oxford Rub-Off, and welded to Dr. Martens classic AirWair air-cushioned sole.

All the fashion without the bad karma.

Dr. Martens 1460 Felix Lace Up Boots

Same style, different color.

The Vegan Felix retains the shape, eight-eyelet design, and grooved yellow stitching of the 1460. The material, however, is subtly different. Doc Martens’ Black Felix Rub-Off material has a soft, matte finish. Fully vegan, it sits atop a fat-resistant, oil-resistant sole.

Dr. Martens 2976 Felix Chelsea Boots

Fancy a Chelsea boot? These ankle-height, slip-on boots have been a fashion staple for women and men alike since their introduction in 1970. The Vegan Felix Chelsea comes in a soft black matte color, and sit atop Doc Martens patented AirWair bouncing soles.

Dr. Martens Jadon II Mono Platform Lace Up Boots

Do you like the 1460, but wish it had a bit…more? The Vegan Jadon II Mono Platform boot sits on a 1.5 inch platform for walking tall. It also has a side zip.

The upper is made from Doc Martens’ go-to Vegan material, Felix black Rub-Off, which easily rubs clean with a damp cloth. The entire boot sits atop Dr. Martens proprietary AirWair air-cushioned sole.

Dr. Martens Jadon Max Platform Lace Up Boots

Is an inch and a half not quite enough? Dr. Martens Vegan Jadon Max Platform Boots have a 2.25 inch platform, with stylish yellow laces and brass colored eyelets. The uppers are made from Dr. Martens’ own shiny vegan Oxford, and they haven’t forgotten that all-important side zip.

Dr. Martens Jadon II Platform Lace Up Boots

Dr. Martens Vegan Jadon II Platform Boots have the same 1.5-inch platform and stylish silhouette of the Dr. Martens Jadon II Mono, but the upper is Vegan Oxford in a shiny, two-tone cherry red color.

If you like the looks of the Dr. Martens Jadon II Mono, but want to add a bit more flash to your style, these could be your favorite new boots.

Dr. Martens Sinclair Platform Boots

The Dr. Martens Vegan Sinclair is a lace-up…and it’s not. The shape of the Sinclair’s shiny vegan Oxford uppers is classic, but behind the stylish brass eyelets lies a chunky zip. So you can lace up, or go lace-free. Your choice.

The uppers of the Dr. Martens Sinclair are made from shiny Oxford Rub-Off, and sit on a 1.5-inch platform.

Dr. Martens 101 Felix Ankle Boot

For vegans who prefer a lower boot, Dr. Martens makes one: the Dr. Martens Vegan 101 Felix Ankle boot. This is an ankle-height boot with six, rather than eight brass eyelets. It’s made from Dr. Martens’ own Felix Black Rub-Off, and welded to an AirWair air-cushioned sole.

Dr. Martens 1460 Bex Mono Lace Up Boots

If black on black is your aesthetic, Dr. Martens 1460 Bex Mono could be your boot. The uppers are constructed from matte Felix Black Rub-Off and welded to black soles. The eight eyelets are also black. The entire boot sits atop a one-inch platform.

For women and men who want that work boot aesthetic with a little bit of flair, the Dr. Martens 1460 Bex Mono Lace Up Boots could be your new favorite shoes.

Dr. Martens 1461 Felix Oxford Shoes

Dr. Martens isn’t only about the boots. They make a variety of shoes, too. Dr. Martens Felix Oxford shoes are a classic smooth oxford made from Felix Black Rub-off, and welded to a slip resistant air-cushioned sole. This Oxford was made for industry but born for fashion.

Dr. Martens 1460 Metallic Emboss Lace Up Boots

Who says stompy boots can’t be pretty, too? These are the classic Dr. Martens eight eyelet 1460 lace-ups, but with a twist in texture and color. The uppers are made from embossed Alumin-Hex, a proprietary material that’s coated in aluminum and embossed with a hex pattern.

Dr. Martens 1460 Metallic Emboss comes in a metallic pink color. If shiny and stompy are your sort of things, then give these a look.

Dr. Martens 1461 Oxford

This is Dr. Martens’ classic three-eyelet Oxford shoe made fancy. The upper material is high shine, high fashion vegan Oxford Rub-Off in a two tone cherry red color.

The upper has brass eyelets and is welded to Dr. Martens’ proprietary (and slip resistant) air-cushioned sole.

Dr. Martens Gryphon Gladiator Sandals

Dr. Martens also makes shoes for warmer climes. One of them is the Dr. Martens Gryphon Gladiator sandal. This two strap gladiator comes sized for both women and men. It’s made from smooth Felix Rub-Off in a matte black color, and rides atop a low platform sole.

Dr. Martens Blaire Women’s Felix Gladiator Sandal

Dr. Martens Blaire is a more feminine take on the Dr. Martens Gladiator. It holds the foot securely with three straps and an adjustable ankle band. There’s an arched footbed for greater comfort, and the black matte color Felix Rub-Off uppers are attached to a 1.5 inch platform sole.

Vegan Dr. Martens FAQs

Do you still have questions about Doc Martens vegan products? We understand! These are your feet we’re talking about, and you want to make sure that everything you put on them are comfortable, durable, and of the highest quality.

What are Doc Marten Vegan Boots Made of?

Dr. Martens makes their vegan boots from one of three different PVC-based materials.

Dr. Martens Felix Rub-Off has a matte finish, and comes in black.

Dr.Martens Vegan Oxford has a smooth, shiny sort of finish. It comes in black, as well as a two-tone red color.

Dr. Martens Alumin-Hex is PVC (polyvinyl chloride) with an aluminum coating that is embossed with a hexagon design.

Are Vegan Dr Martens Good Quality?

Like all Dr. Martens shoes, their vegan shoes (and other items) are made to a very high standard of both materials and construction.

In many other shoes, the pieces of the uppers are glued together. Moreover, the soles, welt, and uppers are also attached using adhesive.

However, in all Dr. Martens shoes, the high quality uppers are stitched together, then stitched to the welt. The welt is then welded to the sole at a temperature of more than 1202 degrees Fahrenheit (650 degrees Celsius).

This process is the same for both Vegan Dr. Martens and leather Dr. Martens.

The faux leather versions of Dr. Martens shoes and boots use PVC for the uppers. The material is smooth and supple, but it’s also thick enough to not feel cheap.

One could say that Dr. Martens vegan friendly shoes are as much about substance as they are about style.

Do Vegan Docs Last a Long Time?

It used to be a given that items made from faux leather didn’t last as long as real leather items. But technology has come a long way in the last decade, as has vegan style.

One of the great things about the high quality materials that Dr. Martens uses is that they really do last. In fact, in some ways, for example their resistance to cracking, the faux leather versions of their boots last better than the animal leather versions.

Are Vegan Doc Martens Hard to Break in?

Vegan leather shoes, like real leather shoes, often need to be broken in.

“Breaking in” means softening and stretching the uppers to make them more comfortable. It may take a bit of time to break in your vegan Doc Martens, and that time can vary from individual to individual.

But the process itself isn’t difficult. Check out our guide to breaking in your Vegan Dr. Martens here.

Are Vegan Doc Martens Waterproof?

No, neither Doc Martens vegan shoes nor their vegan boots are waterproof.

You can, however, make them a bit more water resistant by treating the uppers with a conditioner made for faux leather products.

Vegan Dr Martens: Which Would You Choose?

For our money, and for our style, it’s difficult to beat the Dr. Martens Vegan Sinclair boot. These low-slung lace up boots give you the choice of using those laces or mixing it up with the fun chunky zipper. The 1.5 inch platform sole gives a boost, but isn’t too high.

But that’s us. What’s your aesthetic? And which Dr. Martens vegan boot best expresses your style?
